Your Habits Aren’t the Problem… Your System Might Be
✨Why motivation keeps failing and how to build a system that works in real life
Let’s be honest…
How many times have you told yourself:
“This time I’m going to stick with it.”
You create the workout plan.
You buy the groceries.
You download the habit tracker.
You create the budget.
Monday feels amazing.
You’re motivated.
You’re focused.
You’re ready.
Then Wednesday happens.
Your schedule changes.
You’re tired.
Something unexpected comes up.
And suddenly…
The entire plan disappears.
Then you blame yourself.
“I’m inconsistent.”
“I don’t have enough discipline.”
“I always quit.”
But what if you aren’t the problem?
What if your system was never designed for real life?
Motivation Is a Terrible Long Term Strategy
Motivation feels powerful because it gives you energy at the beginning.
But motivation changes.
Some days you’ll wake up excited.
Other days you’ll wake up exhausted.
Some days you’ll have an hour to work out.
Other days you’ll have ten minutes.
Some days you’ll have plenty of money left after your bills.
Other days you’ll have unexpected expenses.
That’s life.
So instead of building systems around your best days…
Build them around your real days.
A good system doesn’t ask:
“How motivated am I?”
It asks:
“What’s the smallest action I can still complete today?”
🧠 Your Environment Is Working On You
Your surroundings influence your behavior more than you may realize.
Want to drink more water?
Keep the bottle where you can see it.
Want to read?
Put the book beside your bed.
Want to spend less?
Remove unnecessary shopping notifications.
Want to work out in the morning?
Put your clothes out the night before.
This is called environment design.
Instead of relying entirely on willpower…
You change the environment around you.
Make the behavior you want easier.
Make the behavior you don’t want harder.
That’s smart discipline.
🏋🏽♀️ Build a Fitness Plan for Your Worst Day
This is one of my favorite strategies.
Stop creating workout plans that only work when everything goes perfectly.
Create three levels.
🟢 GREEN DAY
You’ve got time and energy.
Complete your full workout.
🟡 YELLOW DAY
You’re busy.
Give yourself 20 minutes.
🔴 RED DAY
Everything is chaotic.
Walk for five minutes.
Stretch.
Move your body.
Do something.
The objective isn’t perfection.
It’s continuity.
Because one of the most powerful things you can protect is your identity:
“I’m someone who moves my body.”
🥗 Stop Making Nutrition More Complicated Than It Needs to Be
You don’t need 50 recipes.
You need reliable meals you can repeat.
Create:
2 easy breakfasts
2 easy lunches
2 easy dinners
2 go to snacks
Now you have options without having to make dozens of decisions every day.
This matters because decision fatigue can make healthy choices harder when you’re already mentally exhausted.
Simple doesn’t mean boring.
Simple means sustainable.
💰 MONEY CORNER
I’m not a financial advisor or medical professional… just your favorite drill sergeant helping you think differently.
Here’s your money mission this week:
Automate one financial behavior.
If appropriate for your situation, consider automating a recurring savings contribution, bill payment, or another financial habit you’re trying to make consistent.
Why?
Because what gets automated doesn’t have to compete with your mood every Friday.
You don’t have to remember.
You don’t have to negotiate with yourself.
The system handles the repetition.
And remember…
The goal isn’t to make a massive financial move overnight.
It’s to develop the habit of directing your money intentionally.
🧠 REAL TALK FROM YOUR FAVORITE DRILL SERGEANT
Stop calling yourself undisciplined every time your plan falls apart.
Maybe you’re not undisciplined.
Maybe your plan has no backup.
You need a system for the busy day.
The tired day.
The stressful day.
The unexpected day.
Because those days aren’t exceptions.
They’re part of life.
Discipline isn’t doing everything perfectly.
Discipline is knowing how to keep moving when conditions aren’t perfect.
That’s the difference between a temporary challenge…
And a lifestyle.
🎯 YOUR WARRIORS HAVEN ORDERS
Before next Friday:
01… Choose one goal that needs a better system.
02… Make one good habit easier.
03… Make one unwanted habit harder.
04… Create your Green, Yellow, and Red fitness plans.
05… Choose your default meals.
06… Automate one financial behavior.
07… Create a backup plan for your hardest days.
Then ask yourself:
“If motivation disappeared tomorrow… would my system still work?”
If the answer is no…
You just found your next mission.
🔥 THE WARRIOR TAKEAWAY
You don’t need more willpower.
You don’t need another extreme challenge.
You don’t need to become perfect.
You need systems that make the behaviors you want easier to repeat.
Make it visible.
Make it simple.
Make it automatic.
Make it repeatable.
Because the strongest version of you isn’t built on your best day.
It’s built on the days when life gets messy…
And you still find a way to show up.
