About this episode
SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Warriors Haven Podcast, the place where discipline meets purpose and everyday people become unstoppable.
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Jaisha Sutherland, a retired Army drill sergeant, single mom, and the founder of the Warriors Haven.
SPEAKER_00: Around here, we talk fitness, mindset, and the mission of building a stronger you, mentally, physically, and financially.
SPEAKER_00: Because this isn't just about the gym.
SPEAKER_00: It's about life, leadership, and living on your terms.
SPEAKER_00: So gear up, lock in, and let's step into the haven where warriors are made.
SPEAKER_00: On this episode, let's talk about the fitness formula that we very rarely hear about, which is mindset, movement, and metabolism.
SPEAKER_00: Your body doesn't follow your workout, it follows your mindset.
SPEAKER_00: And that's why most people never transform.
SPEAKER_00: Let's start with the science because transformation isn't luck, it's physiology.
SPEAKER_00: Kinesiology is the study of how your body moves, stabilizes, and produces force.
SPEAKER_00: Every exercise, every rep is a communication between your brain and your muscles.
SPEAKER_00: When you move, your nervous system sends electrical signals to activate muscle fibers.
SPEAKER_00: If your form is sloppy or rushed, those signals misfire.
SPEAKER_00: That's how injuries happen.
SPEAKER_00: And why you can work hard without ever seeing results.
SPEAKER_00: Here's the truth.
SPEAKER_00: You don't need harder workouts.
SPEAKER_00: You need smarter movement.
SPEAKER_00: Let's break it down real quick.
SPEAKER_00: Explosive energy, ATP CP system, short bursts like push-ups, sprints, or lifting heavy.
SPEAKER_00: Mid-range energy, glycolic system, 30 to 90 second steady efforts like hit or jump rope.
SPEAKER_00: Endurance energy, oxidative system, long duration, oxygen-driven work like walking, cycling, or jogging.
SPEAKER_00: When you balance all three systems, you build performance and sustainability.
SPEAKER_00: That's the formula behind every elite athlete, and it's something anyone can apply.
SPEAKER_00: Your mindset literally changes your metabolism.
SPEAKER_00: Here's how.
SPEAKER_00: When you live in a constant state of stress, juggling bills, deadlines, kids, everything, your body releases cortisol, the stress hormone.
SPEAKER_00: Cortisol tells your body to hold on to fat and slow down recovery because it thinks you're in survival mode.
SPEAKER_00: So when you're working out and eating right, your system is fighting you.
SPEAKER_00: That's why mental clarity, sleep, and emotional regulation are part of the formula.
SPEAKER_00: If your brain's exhausted, your metabolism underperforms.
SPEAKER_00: Here's what I tell my clients your mindset sets the thermostat for your metabolism.
SPEAKER_00: Calm mind, controlled breath, consistent effort.
SPEAKER_00: That's how you ignite real change from the inside out.
SPEAKER_00: You don't need exotic supplements to support performance.
SPEAKER_00: You can do it with what's already in your kitchen.
SPEAKER_00: A post-workout recovery.
SPEAKER_00: Have that within 30 minutes of finishing your workout.
SPEAKER_00: Grab a protein source and a complex carb.
SPEAKER_00: Try a banana and peanut butter, Greek yogurt with berries, a turkey sandwich with whole grain bread, eggs and oatmeal, or simply a post-recovery shake.
SPEAKER_00: That combo helps your muscles repair and replenish your glycogen stores so you're not crashing midday.
SPEAKER_00: Dehydration by even 2% can tank performance by 10%.
SPEAKER_00: Keep it simple.
SPEAKER_00: Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water daily.
SPEAKER_00: Add a pinch of sea salt, a splash of lemon juice, or even a few cucumber slices to help replace electrolytes naturally.
SPEAKER_00: Focus on foods that keep your metabolism steady.
SPEAKER_00: Protein every meal: chicken, tuna, eggs, beans, tofu, fibers like fruits, veggies, oats, healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts, and sleep.
SPEAKER_00: Because metabolism doesn't run on caffeine, it runs on recovery.
SPEAKER_00: When you master these fundamentals, your body starts to work for you, not against you.
SPEAKER_00: Here's what I want you to try for the next seven days.
SPEAKER_00: This is how you test the mindset, movement, and metabolism formula in real life.
SPEAKER_00: Step one, mindset.
SPEAKER_00: Every morning, take three minutes to reset your focus.
SPEAKER_00: Before you touch your phone, write down one goal, one gratitude, one non-negotiable.
SPEAKER_00: Command your day before your day commands you.
SPEAKER_00: Step two, movement.
SPEAKER_00: Commit to 30 minutes of intentional movement every day.
SPEAKER_00: Doesn't matter if it's a brisk walk, dumbbells in your garage, or body weight on your living room floor.
SPEAKER_00: Focus on form and control, not speed.
SPEAKER_00: Train like your body is listening, because it is.
SPEAKER_00: Step 3.
SPEAKER_00: Metabolism.
SPEAKER_00: Within 30 minutes after your workout, fuel up.
SPEAKER_00: Grab a mix of protein and carbs, like we said, eggs and toast, yogurt and fruit, or a protein shake.
SPEAKER_00: Drink a tall glass of water before and after.
SPEAKER_00: Track how you feel each day.
SPEAKER_00: Energy, mood, focus, sleep.
SPEAKER_00: By day seven, you'll see your body start to respond differently.
SPEAKER_00: More energy, fewer crashes, clearer headspace.
SPEAKER_00: This isn't a program.
SPEAKER_00: It's a system that retrains your body to respond to consistency.
SPEAKER_00: Here's the bottom line.
SPEAKER_00: Transformation doesn't start in your body, it starts in your brain.
SPEAKER_00: When your mindset aligns with your movement and your metabolism, you don't just look stronger, you become stronger.
SPEAKER_00: Bookmark this before your next workout and DM me the word formula if you want to test it with me.
SPEAKER_00: Because real transformation isn't about perfection, it's about precision, purpose, and persistence.
SPEAKER_00: So until the next one, friends, stay strong, stay focused, stay ready.
SPEAKER_00: Thanks for locking in with me today on the Warriors Haven podcast.
