Muscle is the Lever
About this episode
Muscle isn’t about looks… it’s about leverage. If you’re working 60+ hours, raising kids, running on caffeine, and wondering why your energy, metabolism, and strength feel gone… this episode is for you. In this episode, former Drill Sergeant and single mom Jeshia Sutherland breaks down in simple, real-life language why muscle is the missing lever for energy, fat loss, and resilience… and why protein and creatine are making a massive comeback for everyday adults, not bodybuilders. You’ll learn: • Why dieting harder isn’t fixing your fatigue • How muscle controls your metabolism and energy • Why most adults are under-eating protein • How stress shuts down your body’s natural creatine production • Why creatine supports both physical and mental energy • What’s actually happening at the cellular level when energy drops This isn’t extreme fitness. This is how you build a body that can handle real life. SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Warriors Haven Podcast, the place where discipline meets purpose and everyday people become unstoppable.
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Jaisha Sutherland, a retired Army drill sergeant, single mom, and the founder of the Warriors Haven.
SPEAKER_00: Around here, we talk fitness, mindset, and the mission of building a stronger you, mentally, physically, and financially.
SPEAKER_00: Because this isn't just about the gym.
SPEAKER_00: It's about life, leadership, and living on your terms.
SPEAKER_00: So gear up, lock in, and let's step into the haven where warriors are made.
SPEAKER_00: Let me say something that might surprise you.
SPEAKER_00: If you're tired all the time, if fat loss feels harder than it used to, if your energy crashes even when you're doing everything right, you're not lazy, you're not broken, and this is not an age problem.
SPEAKER_00: This is an energy problem.
SPEAKER_00: And today I want to show you the one thing that controls energy, metabolism, and strength more than anything else.
SPEAKER_00: Can you guess what it is?
SPEAKER_00: I'll give you the answer.
SPEAKER_00: Muscle.
SPEAKER_00: Muscle is the lever, and most adults are unknowingly losing it every single year.
SPEAKER_00: I'm talking to the people working 60 plus hours a week, raising kids, running on caffeine, holding it together.
SPEAKER_00: You don't lack discipline, you lack support.
SPEAKER_00: Life didn't slow down, your body did.
SPEAKER_00: And when muscle starts disappearing, everything else follows.
SPEAKER_00: A slower metabolism, lower energy, more cravings, less confidence.
SPEAKER_00: Not because you stopped trying, but because your body shifted into survival mode.
SPEAKER_00: Let me explain this like I would to a new trainee.
SPEAKER_00: Think of muscle like your body's engine.
SPEAKER_00: The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn without trying, the better you handle stress, the easier fat loss becomes.
SPEAKER_00: Muscle stores sugar safely, it supports hormones, it protects joints, and it keeps your metabolism awake.
SPEAKER_00: When muscle goes down, your body saves energy instead of spending it.
SPEAKER_00: So dieting harder doesn't work.
SPEAKER_00: You're pressing the gas with no engine.
SPEAKER_00: Here's where nutrition comes in.
SPEAKER_00: Protein is not optional, it's not a fitness trend.
SPEAKER_00: It is a survival nutrient.
SPEAKER_00: Protein helps your body repair muscle, build enzymes, support immunity, stay mentally sharp.
SPEAKER_00: When protein is too low, your body doesn't say, no problem.
SPEAKER_00: It says, I'll break down muscle instead.
SPEAKER_00: Most busy adults aren't under-eating calories.
SPEAKER_00: They're under-eating protein.
SPEAKER_00: Fast meals, skipped meals, snack-based days, and muscle slowly disappears.
SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about creatine.
SPEAKER_00: Creatine is not a steroid.
SPEAKER_00: Creatine is not unsafe.
SPEAKER_00: Creatine is one of the most researched supplements ever.
SPEAKER_00: All creatine does is this.
SPEAKER_00: It helps your cells make energy faster.
SPEAKER_00: That means more strength, better muscle retention, faster recovery, better mental clarity.
SPEAKER_00: And yes, your brain uses energy too.
SPEAKER_00: That's why people notice less brain fog, more focus, better resilience.
SPEAKER_00: Here's the part no one talks about.
SPEAKER_00: Your body is designed to make creatine on its own.
SPEAKER_00: Your liver, kidneys, and pancreas work together to produce it naturally.
SPEAKER_00: Then your muscles and brain store it for energy.
SPEAKER_00: But here's the issue: chronic stress shuts this system down.
SPEAKER_00: And most adults today live in chronic stress.
SPEAKER_00: Long work hours, poor sleep, high caffeine, low protein, constant pressure, your body shifts into survival mode.
SPEAKER_00: And when that happens, creatine production drops, muscle repair slows, energy output declines.
SPEAKER_00: Not because your body failed, but because it's overwhelmed.
SPEAKER_00: If you are over 35, working fifty, sixty plus hours, sleeping less than seven hours, eating low protein, constantly stressed, there's a high chance your natural creatine levels are lower than they should be.
SPEAKER_00: Hear me on this one.
SPEAKER_00: Especially for parents, your body is constantly redirecting energy to survive the day.
SPEAKER_00: So it starts rationing fuel.
SPEAKER_00: That's why you feel weak even when you're trying, foggy even after coffee, drained even on easy days.
SPEAKER_00: Your energy system is underfunded.
SPEAKER_00: This is why creatine is making a comeback.
SPEAKER_00: Not as a shortcut, but as support.
SPEAKER_00: Protein gives your body the building blocks.
SPEAKER_00: Muscle creates the demand.
SPEAKER_00: Creatine improves energy delivery.
SPEAKER_00: This isn't about hacks.
SPEAKER_00: This is about restoring function.
SPEAKER_00: When function comes back, energy improves, fat loss feels easier, confidence returns.
SPEAKER_00: Your body finally starts working with you again.
SPEAKER_00: Friends, I didn't learn this from influencers.
SPEAKER_00: I learned it because of the military, being under pressure as a single mom while building a body that has zero margin for burnout.
SPEAKER_00: I don't teach extremes.
SPEAKER_00: I teach systems that work in real life.
SPEAKER_00: If this episode hit home, if you're realizing your body hasn't failed, it's just underfueled.
SPEAKER_00: I created a quiz that helps you understand where your energy is leaking, what your body needs most right now, and how to start your comeback the smart way in 2026.
SPEAKER_00: No pressure, no hype, just clarity.
SPEAKER_00: Visit my website when you're ready.
SPEAKER_00: Your comeback doesn't start with motivation, it starts with understanding how your body actually works.
