The enemy isn’t your schedule. It’s the story you’ve been repeating.
About this episode
If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and felt like you’re carrying a life that’s heavier than your body can hold… this episode is for you. This is the truth nobody ever told you: Your limiting beliefs aren’t who you are — they’re who you learned to be. They’re old stories. Old wounds. Old orders your brain kept replaying to keep you safe… even while they were keeping you small. In this episode, retired Army Drill Sergeant, single mom, and confidence coach, Jay, breaks down limiting beliefs with raw honesty, simple science, and the real-life compassion you wish someone had given you sooner. If you’ve ever thought: • “I never stick with it.” • “I’m always tired.” • “People like me don’t win.” • “I don’t have time to change.” • “Maybe I’m just meant to struggle…” You’re going to hear yourself in every word. You’ll learn why your brain protects you from the very things you want, why “comfort zones” are really survival zones, and how one new belief can flip your entire life from stuck → unstoppable. This isn’t mindset fluff. This is biology, heartbreak, and truth — delivered with Drill-Sergeant precision and big-sister love. You’ll walk away feeling seen, understood, and finally ready to say: “I’m done letting fear narrate my life.” If your heart is tired… if your energy is gone… if you know you’re meant for more but don’t know where to start — start here. 👉 Take the FREE Wellness + Energy Quiz at www.thewarriorshaven.com 👉 Join the Warriors Haven 7-Day Jumpstart and rebuild from the inside out You’re not broken. SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Warriors Haven Podcast, the place where discipline meets purpose and everyday people become unstoppable.
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Jaisha Sutherland, a retired Army drill sergeant, single mom, and the founder of the Warriors Haven.
SPEAKER_00: Around here, we talk fitness, mindset, and the mission of building a stronger you, mentally, physically, and financially.
SPEAKER_00: Because this isn't just about the gym.
SPEAKER_00: It's about life, leadership, and living on your terms.
SPEAKER_00: So gear up, lock in, and let's step into the haven where warriors are made.
SPEAKER_00: Limiting beliefs.
SPEAKER_00: And before you roll your eyes thinking this is some fluffy mindset talk, nope, not here, not on the Warriors Haven podcast.
SPEAKER_00: I'm a retired Army drill sergeant.
SPEAKER_00: I've coached soldiers under pressure, and now I coach everyday people who feel like they've been carrying battles they've never asked for.
SPEAKER_00: So today I'm breaking this down with real life levels because I want you to walk away saying, oh damn, that's me, and I'm done living like this.
SPEAKER_00: Let's start with something science-backed and simple.
SPEAKER_00: Your brain's job is to keep you safe, not make you successful.
SPEAKER_00: Let me say that again.
SPEAKER_00: Your brain's job is to keep you safe, not to make you successful.
SPEAKER_00: Your brain cares more about comfort than growth.
SPEAKER_00: That's why when you try something new, like working out, eating better, starting a business, saying no for once, your brain throws up alarms like that's scary, you might fail, you're too busy, you're not ready.
SPEAKER_00: This isn't weakness, this isn't laziness, this is biology.
SPEAKER_00: Your brain uses past experiences to predict danger.
SPEAKER_00: If something feels unfamiliar, your brain says, retreat, go back to what you know.
SPEAKER_00: Just like in the military, your brain runs on old commands, and some of you are still following orders that are years old.
SPEAKER_00: So let's get real.
SPEAKER_00: Some of these are probably going to punch you in the gut.
SPEAKER_00: You want to lose weight, but you tell yourself, I always fall off, so why start?
SPEAKER_00: You want more energy, but your brain whispers, you've always been tired.
SPEAKER_00: This is just who you are.
SPEAKER_00: You want confidence, but that little voice says, people like me don't look like that.
SPEAKER_00: You want to change your life, but you convince yourself you'll start next Monday.
SPEAKER_00: Again, these aren't facts, these are stories you've repeated so many times they feel true.
SPEAKER_00: And listen, I say this with so much love, but also with that drill sergeant clarity.
SPEAKER_00: You've been living by lies, comfortable lies, convenient lies, and those lies have been running your life.
SPEAKER_00: Here's the science.
SPEAKER_00: Your brain has something called the reticular activating system.
SPEAKER_00: Think of it just like a filter.
SPEAKER_00: Whatever you believe, your brain goes out and finds proof for it.
SPEAKER_00: Example, if you believe I always fail, your brain finds examples of every time you've quit.
SPEAKER_00: If you believe I'm too busy to be healthy, your brain only notices your busy moments, never your open ones.
SPEAKER_00: Your brain is literally trained to prove you right, even when it's hurting you.
SPEAKER_00: But the good news?
SPEAKER_00: You can retrain that system.
SPEAKER_00: Just like a soldier going through basic training, they learn with repetition, and so can you.
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so what does this mean for you?
SPEAKER_00: It means your life isn't stuck because of your circumstances, it's stuck because of your commands.
SPEAKER_00: You're not too busy, you're not too broken, you're not too far gone.
SPEAKER_00: You've just been running old programming, and you know what?
SPEAKER_00: You can rewrite it, you can retrain it, you can re-command it.
SPEAKER_00: If you can learn to tell yourself new stories, I can be consistent, I can change my body, I can change my energy, your brain will eventually start finding evidence for that too.
SPEAKER_00: I'm a single mom.
SPEAKER_00: I built this business from nothing.
SPEAKER_00: I ran on fumes, fear, and faith more times than I can count.
SPEAKER_00: There were days I thought I cannot do this.
SPEAKER_00: I'm too tired.
SPEAKER_00: Nobody's gonna listen to me.
SPEAKER_00: I'm doing it alone.
SPEAKER_00: But guess what?
SPEAKER_00: Those were lies.
SPEAKER_00: Lies built from old wounds, old stories, old seasons.
SPEAKER_00: I changed the belief.
SPEAKER_00: Then I changed my actions, then I changed my life, and that's exactly what you can do too.
SPEAKER_00: So here's the new command.
SPEAKER_00: And yes, I'm calling it a command.
SPEAKER_00: Stop letting old beliefs run your life.
SPEAKER_00: You're not anywhere close to a basic training facility.
SPEAKER_00: You get to lead now.
SPEAKER_00: You've survived things that would have broken someone else.
SPEAKER_00: You've carried weight people don't even see.
SPEAKER_00: You've shown up for everyone, even when you had nothing left.
SPEAKER_00: Now it's time to show up for you.
SPEAKER_00: And if no one else has said it today, let me say it loud.
SPEAKER_00: You are capable, you are worthy, you are ready, and you are done living small.
SPEAKER_00: If this episode hit you, if you felt that, oh damn, she's talking about me moment, if you're tired of living inside the same story, then this is your sign to do something about it.
SPEAKER_00: Start simple.
SPEAKER_00: Start today.

SPEAKER_00: This is the Warriors Haven podcast.
SPEAKER_00: I'm Coach Jay, your drill sergeant when you need discipline, your sister when you need compassion, and your coach when you're finally ready to change your life.
