About this episode
SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Warriors Haven Podcast, the place where discipline meets purpose and everyday people become unstoppable.
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Jaisha Sutherland, a retired Army drill sergeant, single mom, and the founder of the Warriors Haven.
SPEAKER_00: Around here, we talk fitness, mindset, and the mission of building a stronger you, mentally, physically, and financially.
SPEAKER_00: Because this isn't just about the gym.
SPEAKER_00: It's about life, leadership, and living on your terms.
SPEAKER_00: So gear up, lock in, and let's step into the haven where warriors are made.
SPEAKER_00: Sleep doesn't fix low energy, habits do.
SPEAKER_00: Let's be real.
SPEAKER_00: You can sleep eight hours, wake up, and still feel like you got hit by a freight train.
SPEAKER_00: You think, I just need more rest.
SPEAKER_00: But what if I told you it's not sleep that's failing you, it's your habits.
SPEAKER_00: Because true energy doesn't come from how long you sleep, it comes from how well your body, mind, and metabolism work together when you're awake.
SPEAKER_00: In today's episode, I'm breaking down the energy equation, the science and strategy behind why you feel drained even when you rest, and how to fix it for good.
SPEAKER_00: Let's dive in.
SPEAKER_00: You can't generate energy if your body's missing the materials to make it.
SPEAKER_00: Think of your body like a generator.
SPEAKER_00: It only performs as well as the fuel and wiring it's given.
SPEAKER_00: Let's hit the three biggest nutrient leaks I see over and over again.
SPEAKER_00: Magnesium.
SPEAKER_00: Magnesium is responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions in your body, including muscle relaxation, blood sugar balance, and energy conversion.
SPEAKER_00: When you're low, you feel tight, anxious, and constantly fatigued.
SPEAKER_00: Add foods like spinach, almonds, black beans, avocado, and dark chocolate.
SPEAKER_00: The next one, B vitamins.
SPEAKER_00: B vitamins, especially B12 and B6, are your energy enzymes.
SPEAKER_00: They convert food into fuel and stabilize your mood and focus.
SPEAKER_00: Low bees show up as brain frog, irritability, and low motivation.
SPEAKER_00: Boost with eggs, salmon, lentils, and fortified whole grains.
SPEAKER_00: And the third, hydration.
SPEAKER_00: Even a 2% drop in hydration can cause a 10% drop in performance.
SPEAKER_00: When you're dehydrated, your blood thickens, oxygen flow slows, and your brain lags.
SPEAKER_00: Drink half your body weight in ounces daily.
SPEAKER_00: Add a pinch of sea salt or a squeeze of lemon to help with natural electrolyte balance.
SPEAKER_00: Your energy isn't gone, it's locked behind nutritional gaps.
SPEAKER_00: Close those and you'll feel the difference within days.
SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about your mental battery.
SPEAKER_00: Because the truth is, many people aren't physically exhausted, they're mentally overloaded.
SPEAKER_00: Your mind consumes massive amounts of energy.
SPEAKER_00: And here's how you unknowingly drain it.
SPEAKER_00: Overthinking, replaying scenarios or worrying about things that haven't happened yet, chronic stress, constant cortisol spikes that drain your mental and emotional bandwidth, negative environments, people, conversations, or social media that keeps your nervous system in survival mode.
SPEAKER_00: Energy isn't just physical, it's emotional.
SPEAKER_00: If your mental tabs are always open, your system can't recharge.
SPEAKER_00: Here's your tactical fix.
SPEAKER_00: Create micro mind breaks.
SPEAKER_00: Two minutes of deep breathing, a short walk outside, or silence in your car before your next task.
SPEAKER_00: You don't need a full vacation to reset.
SPEAKER_00: Just a pattern interrupt.
SPEAKER_00: Protect your focus like you protect your phone battery.
SPEAKER_00: Close what's not serving you.
SPEAKER_00: Let's hit a big one.
SPEAKER_00: Your energy roller coaster.
SPEAKER_00: You wake up, grab a sugary coffee, or skip breakfast altogether, and you're already sabotaging your energy before 9 a.m.
SPEAKER_00: Here's what happens: sugar and caffeine spike your blood glucose, giving you a temporary rush.
SPEAKER_00: Your body releases insulin to bring it back down, but it overcorrects.
SPEAKER_00: Then boom, the crash hits.
SPEAKER_00: You feel foggy, irritable, and reach for more caffeine to fix it.
SPEAKER_00: That's not fatigue.
SPEAKER_00: That's chemical chaos.
SPEAKER_00: Here's how to stabilize your energy all day.
SPEAKER_00: Eat protein first.
SPEAKER_00: Think eggs, Greek yogurt, or a protein shake before coffee.
SPEAKER_00: Pair your carbs with a fat or fiber, oatmeal and nut butter, apple and cheese, toast and avocado.
SPEAKER_00: Hydrate before caffeine.
SPEAKER_00: One glass of water before your morning coffee resets cortisol and digestion.
SPEAKER_00: Coffee is a tool, not a crutch.
SPEAKER_00: Use it strategically, not habitually.
SPEAKER_00: Now let's put it all together because energy isn't something you find, it's something you build.
SPEAKER_00: I call it the personal energy protocol, and it has three parts movement, mindset, meals.
SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about movement.
SPEAKER_00: Start your day with 10 to 15 minutes of movement.
SPEAKER_00: Stretch, walk, or do light resistance.
SPEAKER_00: Enough to raise your heart rate and circulation.
SPEAKER_00: You're not just waking up your body, you're waking up your microchondria, your energy factories.
SPEAKER_00: Next, mindset.
SPEAKER_00: Before touching your phone, set a mental tone.
SPEAKER_00: Ask, where do I want my energy to go today?
SPEAKER_00: Visualize it.
SPEAKER_00: Speak it.
SPEAKER_00: Protect it.
SPEAKER_00: Your morning mindset dictates your metabolic output.
SPEAKER_00: And lastly, meals.
SPEAKER_00: Every three to four hours, refuel with balanced meals.
SPEAKER_00: Protein for muscle repair, complex carbs for sustainable energy, healthy fats for hormone balance, no skipping meals, no starving your system, energy stability, metabolic trust.
SPEAKER_00: When your body trusts you, it gives you more energy to perform.
SPEAKER_00: That's your blueprint.
SPEAKER_00: When you align these three pillars, you don't just fix fatigue.
SPEAKER_00: You unlock consistency.
SPEAKER_00: Here's the truth: you're not broken, you're not lazy, you're just leaking energy through habits that no longer serve you.
SPEAKER_00: Your body doesn't want more sleep, it wants strategy.
SPEAKER_00: When you nourish your cells, protect your mind, and move with intention, your energy becomes predictable, powerful, and sustainable.
SPEAKER_00: So before you chase another caffeine fix or quick fix routine, fix the equation.
